Delta's ability to lobby gov't a key issue
Delta council’s ability to lobby for its residents in provincial and federal arenas
will be a key issue in the upcoming civic election, with contentious local
projects like the South Fraser Perimeter Road, the overhead power lines and
the port expansion still fresh in resident’s minds.
Development and the future of farmland will also be a key issue, especially in Tsawwassen
where land was removed from the ALR this past year to make way for a golf
course and housing development.
Councillor George Hawksworth said that the election would come down to whether Deltans
believe the local government did enough in the past three years.
Hawksworth added that aside from these issues, he believes that “most people are quite satisfied” with the current government.
In its last term the current council maintained local services while adding
police, and had a relatively low tax increase compared to surrounding municipalities.
