Richmond: Husband and wife team back on council
Re-elected Richmond councillor Evelina Halsey-Bradt says there will be more accountability now that her husband is back in the ring.
Evelina and hubby Greg, who used to be mayor of Richmond and an MLA, were both elected to council tonight, but not before some drama.
“I’m thrilled we’re both back,” Evelina told 24 hours. “It came right down to the finish, I was trailing in ninth until about the last five polls. It was a nail-bitter”
She eventually secured her seat with 10,252 votes, ousting another incumbent, Cynthia Chen, who finished with 10,078 votes.
The husband-wife team will work out just fine, according to Evelina.
“He has so much to contribute, it means there will be a lot more accountability,” she said. “People know Greg’s history and he’ll be a voice when something isn’t right.”
What about life at home?
“The only way we’ll work together is to have a very clear line between home life and council,” she said.
