New Westminster will see only three new faces on city council and school board after mayor Wayne Wright and the majority of incumbents won re-election in the 2008 civic vote.
Well-known community activist Jaimie McEvoy, who co-chaired the Save St. Mary’s Hospital Coalition, was the only newcomer elected to city council, earning about 160 more votes than longtime councillor Cal Donnelly.
Newcomers to the school board are former city councillor Casey Cook and Jim Goring, both members of Voice New Westminster.
